According to an article in New York Magazine, the $1 New York pizza slice is back.

A woman by the name of Marisa McClellan from our neighboring city Philadelphia discovered the joy of preserving her own food. She founded Food In Jars to document and share that process in hopes of inspiring other people to do the thing. This is a great way to save money and be self sufficient especially during this economic downturn.
I found out about Food In Jars from Grid Philly

According to this article by MediaPost, the recession doesn’t matter much when it comes to chocoholics getting their fix. Chocolate sales were strong in 2009 and will likely continue to grow in 2010. Amen to that!

It’s Friday (finally) and Friday to me says RED MEAT, particularly Burgers. But in this Recession what’s the next best thing to eating one? Recalling all the really incredibly tasty ones you’ve had.
Enter Press 195 which is my absolute favorite burger spot in Park Slope Brooklyn. They usually have a great beer list to compliment the food. My favorite burger is the California Burnin’ and it’s out of this state. It’s a healthy size burger topped with homemade guacamole, homemade salsa, Monterey Jack and jalapenos.
Other notable places include:
67burger, Forte Greene Brooklyn
Alchemy in Park Slope Brooklyn
Bubby’s, DUMBO Brooklyn
Park Slope Ale House, Park Slope Brooklyn

While Gourmet Magazine will eventually stop printing and the website will be folded into epicurious.com. So while it lasts, I urge you to head to Gourmet.com and check out the great content while it’s still around.
An article that caught my attention is the “Gourmet’s Favorite Cocktails 1990′s” which features cocktail recipies from 1941-2009. The website has great filter that allows users to search by spirit and season.
One cocktailed featured is known as the “Two-Dollar Cocktail” — which got me thinking, while we’re in a recession is there such a thing left?
Leave a comment and let me know the last great cocktail (or beer) you’ve had didn’t empty your bank account.

The New York Times recently ran an article featuring two new yorkers who enjoy the cost effectiveness of a good cheap meal, on a date. Whether the recession is or isn’t over, I’m always a big fan of getting good food on the cheap.
The Rusty Knot was featured in the article.

Whiskey Pickles, who knew? The Brooklyn Brine Company knew. The are committed to keeping their selections seasonal. They make regular updates to their site with news on the latest products and a weekly small-batch specials! Mustard, sauerkraut and whiskey half-sours are just a few things they are working on.
We got them at the Foragers Market in DUMBO Brooklyn and we support them because they’re local.

According to the DUMBOnyc blog The 7 Stars Deli in DUMBO does a Taco special every Thursday. This is news to me, and I do intend to try them. Check back next week for my report.
